Flu Vaccination - Imaan Pharmacy, Harehills

The flu is a common occurrence throughout the year, but the winter months pose the greatest risk for those who are more susceptible to developing the flu and its effects. The vaccination process against the common flu is something that occurs throughout September and October.

So before the season hits, make sure you book for your Harehills Flu Vaccination.

Who is Affected by the Winter Flu?

Flu is known to be more severe in certain groups, for example:

-anyone aged 50 and over

-pregnant women

-children and adults with an underlying health condition or weakened immune system (such as long-term heart or respiratory disease)

The Harehills Pharmacy flu vaccination service is a vital service to anyone in these high-risk groups and is more likely to develop potentially severe complications of flu, such as the secondary bacterial infection pneumonia that can affect the lungs, so it’s recommended that they have a flu jab every year during flu season to help protect them.

You can have the flu vaccine at your GP surgery, but given the busy schedules that these surgeries have on a day-to-day basis. Every year, millions visit GP surgeries with minor health problems that a local pharmacy could help with. By visiting your pharmacy, you can help to keep our healthcare services running smoothly across the country. Imaan Healthcare pharmacies, including Harehills Pharmacy, offer both NHS funded and private flu jabs to give everyone the option to receive the vaccine at a time that suits them.

Health Tips for Those Who Have Received the Flu Vaccination

After getting vaccinated, good health practices also act as a line of defence against the winter flu. At Harehills Pharmacy, our clinician tips for practising good health habits to avoid the flu:

-Avoid close contact with those who are sick, or show signs of flu,

-If you have flu symptoms, stay home from school or work for at least 24 hours,

-Use a tissue to cover your nose and mouth when sneezing and coughing to avoid transmission,

-Regularly wash your hands with soap for up to 20 seconds,

-Don’t touch your eyes, nose, or mouth without first washing your hands to ensure they are germ-free,

-Clean and disinfect surfaces that people come into contact with on a regular basis

Protecting those most at risk is particularly important and the best way to stop flu spreading is to get vaccinated at your local pharmacy. Having a vaccine not only protects the individual, but it also stops the virus from spreading throughout the wider community. Imaan Pharmacy Harehills does offer a flu vaccination service, head to your local Imaan Healthcare pharmacy for a seasonal flu vaccination, and be sure to check ahead to see if you could be eligible for a free NHS flu vaccination.

Flu Vaccines contain trace amounts of the virus in question, in this case, it’s flu. The traces are either dead or inactive so as to not cause the flu. Traditionally, this is administered via a flu jab, usually contained in a needle and gently injected into the arm. This helps create antibodies that’ll help you fight off the virus if you catch it.

If you are eligible for the NHS free flu vaccination service then you are entitled to free seasonal flu vaccinations here at Imaan Pharmacy Harehills in Leeds. Otherwise, call in or see your nearest pharmacy for the latest price on flu vaccinations.

It is recommended that you receive a flu vaccination seasonally at Imaan Pharmacy Harehills, since this will keep you healthy during the upcoming flu season. Immunising yourself via an Imaan Pharmacy Harehills flu vaccination is the most effective way to combat the flu.

I came in as a first year pharmacy student, looking for work experience, however, having had a few hours of previous experience, at a different pharmacy, I wasn’t expecting to enjoy my time at Imaan pharmacy, Leeds, but as soon as the first day started, I felt positive energy from all the staff (the type of energy I would not have expected from a pharmacy). I’d highly recommend, pharmacy students, looking for experience to get experience here, as it’s not too busy so you won’t feel pressured when completing tasks. Both pharmacists that work here, are helpful and give great advice on career paths as a pharmacist, prereg and what to expect in the up coming years at university. The dispenser that I shadowed, was great at her job and gave me many opportunities to help around the pharmacy and gain experience in many areas of pharmacy. The counter assistant is one of the nicest people you will ever meet and will always ask you if you want a cup of tea. I’m grateful for the experience they gave but also for how patient they were with me, even when I made mistakes.
